Job Description : My client is a world leader in digital streaming media and web hosting, due to continued growth an immediate opportunity exists for an experienced Unix Systems administrator. Your role will be the joint administration and operation of all Unix/Linux based Servers relating to production, applications and database systems. Design & Implement additional server platforms, to deliver additional capacity, resilience and capability to Perform systems. Your hands-on practical knowledge must include: Solaris 9/10 installation, administration, patching and upgrading, Linux (pref SUSE 9/10) installation, administration, patching and upgrading, Server security and hardening (SSH, Solaris Security Toolkit (JASS) etc.), General Unix services, such as DNS/BIND, Sendmail, ProFTP/SFTP, and Samba. Understanding of NFS also important. Hardware knowledge of Sun, X86 & SPARC equipment, as well as Sun Storedge and StorageTek solutions, Sun cluster 3.X administration, Solaris Volume Managerm, Ability to manage 3rd party suppliers for equipment specification, purchasing & support contracts. Awareness of the following would be advantageous; Administration of Tomcat/Java/J2EE applications, Apache web server and Sun web server administration, Shell / Perl scripting experience, Veritas Volume Manager knowledge useful for legacy system migration, Server monitoring using BigBrother or similar, Backups using Legato Networker (or similar), NetApp storage solution (or similar), Oracle 10g (to facilitate communications with the Oracle Team)
